How We Make It
Ever wondered what happens after you click “Add to cart”? This page takes you inside our family workshop to show exactly how your personalized wooden signs, wedding guestbooks and nursery name signs are made – from your first idea to the moment your piece is carefully packed and sent to your door.
How We Make Your Wooden Keepsake
From your first idea to the moment you hang your sign on the wall, every step happens in our small family workshop. Here’s how we turn your story into a wooden keepsake.
1
It all starts with your idea
Every piece we make begins with you – your names, your date, your story. You choose a design (wedding guestbook, family name sign, nursery name sign, anniversary gift, etc.) and share your details with us: names, wording, colours, size and any special notes. If you have inspiration photos or a sketch, we love seeing those too.
2
Want to see it first? Ask for a free digital proof
Ask for a free digital proof in your order notes and we email a digital proof of your names, date, font and placement within a business day. Font, layout and small design changes are free at that stage. Production starts once you approve it; if we do not hear back within 24 hours we proceed with the layout you were sent so your order stays on schedule.
3
Choosing and preparing the wood
While we’re finalising your design, we select high-quality wood for your piece. We use premium Baltic birch and other stable woods that take stain beautifully and stay looking great for years. Each board is inspected, cut to size, sanded smooth and prepared for staining or painting. This is where the character of your sign starts to appear – grain patterns, edges and tone.
4
Cutting the 3D letters and details
Next, we cut the raised letters and design elements that make our signs stand out. Using your approved layout, we cut each name, date and word with precision so the edges are clean and crisp. These pieces are then sanded, cleaned and painted in your chosen colours. It’s a slow process, but it’s what gives that sharp, professional look in real life and in photographs.
5
Hand assembly and finishing
When the background and letters are ready, we assemble everything by hand. Each letter is carefully positioned and fixed in place so the spacing is perfect and the layout matches your proof. We check the piece from every angle, making sure it’s straight, centred and balanced. Finally, we apply a protective finish so the surface is smooth to the touch and ready to be displayed at your wedding, in your entryway or above the crib.
6
Quality check (and one last spelling check!)
Before we call anything “finished”, we go through a full quality checklist: Is the spelling 100% correct? Are the letters firmly attached and level? Does the stain or paint look even and smooth? Does the sign match the approved proof? If something doesn’t meet our standards, it doesn’t leave the workshop. It’s that simple.
7
Careful packaging & shipping
Once your sign passes inspection, we pack it as if it’s travelling to our own family. We use protective wrapping, corner protection and sturdy boxes to keep your piece safe on its way to you. Your order is shipped with tracking, and we’ll send you the details so you can follow it all the way to your door.
8
Your story on display
The best part of the process happens outside our workshop – when you hang your sign on the wall or place your wooden guestbook at the entrance of your wedding. Your piece becomes part of your photos, your home and your memories: guests signing around your names, a baby’s name above the crib, a family surname greeting everyone at the door.
That’s why we take every step seriously. We’re not just making decor – we’re making the wooden keepsakes that will live with you for years.
